Hey, where did you go?

Vivito and I have stepped away from SL for the time being. Nothing dramatic, just a slow erosion of usability that has finally resulted in SL being more hassle than it is worth. The frustration of trying to walk, build, or chat - forget flying or exploring - and being unable has made SL a source of pain and stress rather than of relaxation or fun.
We are trying hard to stay connected to our friends and community via Twitter, email, and even the dreaded FB (for those friends who know us under our offline identities).
It is an awful wrench, and we miss being able to log in, chat and play with our friends.
We will maintain Caer Firnas for the time being, but are divesting the rest of our SL properties. The financial outlay makes no sense as we are unable to utilize the properties, and we have other offline needs for the money in any case. We have always seen this as our "entertainment budget", so some entertainment value is rather expected :)
For now we have been lured by the siren call of Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) by a naughty Burro, and are having a wonderful time questing and adventuring together again.
This is not a flounce, and we are not abandoning SL. I am VERY hopeful about the changes Rod Humble is making and count on his making the viewer and the grid usable for us again.
My SL IMs go to email, so I will get those. If you drop me notecards I will eventually log in and get them, but depending on other traffic they could get capped, so if it is important send an IM letting me know so I can log in and pick it up. The same goes for Vivito.
Contact info is in my inworld profile as well.

I know what you mean, Mrs. V. The past few weeks I've seen incredibly low frame rates - single digits are not uncommon - creating some frustrating sessions. I'm hoping this is a bump in the road. (Or perhaps a new computer would help... hmm, pardon me while I pull up a price list.)

We'll try not to blow up too much stuff until you and the Mister can return and join in. :)

I am happy to be the cause of both your delightful distraction and when I get Ranhold to make some dyes I'll find a way of visiting posting them to you :)

@Rhianon - I have a pretty burly computer that manages to run games and MMOs fine. If it takes more computing and graphics power than I have to make SL run acceptably they are in deep trouble in any case. I suspect it is more an issue with the viewer, buggy SL codebase, etc.
@HeadBurro - We appreciate your guided tour that led us to LOTRO, we curse you with grins on our faces daily as we fail to resist the siren song. Fani the Fair is making dyes already, but apparently the crimson and Rose colors that Belandwen and Fani favor are a bit farther along the crafting spectrum. She is an Expert scholar now and making Artisan recipes but I am assuming others will come along later. I had tried to send you something we made early on, but apparently being on a different server means you are effectively playing a different game with no way to communicate between them. Not sure if there is an outside trade system in place.

I'm pretty sure there is no outside system so I'd have to join your server and level up - that's a job I may for later this year as I've got my hands full levelling up the two I have now :-D

I'd just been wondering where you were -- I recently went on a walk in Caer Firnas and was enjoying the solitude of its cemetery, when I was rudely interrupted by some unpleasant zombies. ;)

I am so sorry to hear you are not as active on the grid as you once were. I very much enjoyed waving hello to you in Caledon chat, and had hoped we'd have a chance someday to meet.

I'm getting my act together and starting up my blog again -- so hopefully now I can catch up with you here on your blog.

Regards,

Astolat
